SUMMARY

The Welds feature in Ansys Discovery 2024R1 is a significant enhancement aimed at simplifying and streamlining the process of assigning welds in engineering simulations. This feature integrates advanced tools and functionalities as intermittent welds to facilitate the preparation and assignment of welds in a more intuitive and efficient manner.

The feature provides a seamless workflow for engineers to prepare and assign welds to their models. This reduces the complexity and time required for setting up simulations involving welded structures.

How does Fillet Weld tool work?

When you select geometry, Ansys Discovery identifies potential weld locations. This automation significantly speeds up the initial setup phase and reduces the likelihood of missing critical welds. You can also manually select or deselect these spots as needed.

You can specify whether the welds are continuous or intermittent and define their properties. Discovery can also read weld locations and properties from the CAD properties of an imported model, using this information to automatically define welds. Users can customize the properties of the welds, such as size, type, and material, to accurately reflect the real-world conditions of the welded joints. This ensures that the simulation results are realistic and reliable.

The feature includes enhanced visualization tools to help users see the welds and their properties clearly within the model. This helps in verifying that all necessary welds are properly assigned and that their placement is correct.

Additionally, you can save weld definitions to a local library and export the geometry with defined welds to Mechanical for meshing and simulation. This integration allows for the seamless transfer of the prepared model into various simulation environments, enabling comprehensive analysis of the welded structures.

The feature supports rapid design iterations by making it easier to modify and update welds as the design evolves. This flexibility is crucial in the iterative design process common in engineering projects.

Once in Mechanical, beam bodies will appear. These will be used to create the weld mesh object.

Using the property ‘Use worksheet’ as ‘Yes’ will allow you to create all the objects automatically and generate the mesh in one step.

Here, a detail of the generated mesh. Beautiful! isn't it?

CONCLUSION.

The Welds feature in Ansys Discovery 2024R1 enhances the user experience by providing tools that simplify the preparation and assignment of welds, improve accuracy, and save time in the simulation setup process. This makes it easier for engineers to conduct detailed analyses of welded structures, leading to better-informed design decisions and more robust final products.
