EDB files contain essential data about printed circuit boards (PCBs), including their layout, components, connectivity, and electromagnetic properties. Importing EDB files into Ansys tools is a critical step in leveraging the power of simulation and analysis for designing efficient, reliable, and high-performing electronic systems. Here, I will be showing you how to import an EDB file into Ansys HFSS and Q3D Extractor. So, let's get started!

Overview

The process of importing an EDB file into HFSS or Q3D is identical and involves the following steps:

    1. Import the EDB file into AEDT, which automatically opens HFSS 3D Layout.

    2. Once inside HFSS 3DL, add an HFSS Solution Setup.

    3. Right-click on the Solution Setup, go to Export, and select either HFSS or Q3D.

In the following video, you'll find instructions on importing an EDB file into HFSS:

If you're interested in importing into Q3D, refer to the video below:

Note that the advantage of importing the EDB file using this method is that it automatically recognizes materials and nets, streamlining the process.
