Solving DC and AC Inductance in Ansys Q3D

Extracting the inductance of cables is crucial for ensuring the performance and reliability of electrical and electronic systems. This blog post will cover the process of solving for DC and AC inductance using Ansys Q3D.

Overview

In this example, we will consider a simple geometry consisting of two groups of cables: positive and negative, as shown below:

 

Nets can be assigned using the "Auto Identify Nets" feature, accessible by right-clicking on Nets in the project manager. Once this is done, sources and sinks must be assigned properly to ensure the correct current flow.

 

This example is meshed at 10MHz. The mesh is shown below:

 

 

The simulation results cover the DC partial inductance of each group of cables, the AC self-inductance of each group, and the DC and AC series inductance of all groups of cables.
